Symposium: Digital Convergence and Copyright

The Intellectual Property Entertainment & Sports Law Society (IPELS) of New York University School of Law is organizing a symposium on ‘Digital Convergence and Copyright’ which will be held at New York University School of Law on Monday, April 7, 2008 between 4 – 7 PM followed by a cocktail reception. The Symposium is sponsored by the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law and Policy.

The Symposium is targeted towards students as well as professionals in the intellectual property field and will focus on a business as well as a legal perspective on emerging media services and associated copyright issues, discussing digital distribution of entertainment and the phenomenon that blurs the boundaries between different mediums and copyrightable subject matters: i.e. digital convergence. The Symposium is divided into two sections. The first section will be a more business minded approach discussing emerging business models, and also the role and liability of service providers. The second section will be devoted to protecting copyright in the digital era, concerning itself with topics such as fair use, DMCA and privacy issues in the enforcement of copyright.

Space is limited, reservations are required. Contact Nicole Arzt at arztn@juris.law.nyu.edu for more information.
