The Program on Law & Technology at Columbia Law School was founded to publicize research on the legal problems created by technological innovation, and to design and disseminate technologies that might serve the public’s interest in law and legal change.

The program has three goals: The dissemination of the academic work of Columbia faculty, dissemination of information and analysis on current events, and the authorship of specific technological projects.

NYPD on D-Block Public Safety

The D-block failed to reach the minimum bid in the FCC’s 700 MHz auction, in part due to mandatory public-safety features. Now major city agencies, including the NYPD, have published statements to the effect that no commercial network provider will be able to build a network that meets public-safety needs.
